Speeding on the Island
The Island speed limit is 25 MPH. There is a constant complaint of speeding on our island roads. The Gate Lodge monitors all vehicles that enter the island but they have little control over individual driving speeds. The speed limit is well posted. Along with our new roads, we replaced the much hated speed "bumps" with new permanent speed "humps" in an attempt to slow drivers down. At various times it has been suggested to "invite" the Barnstable Police on to the island in an attempt to control the speeding but this has never been considered a desirable solution. We are a private community, with private roads. The last thing we need is a police cruiser roaming the community. Now we can propose a noninvasive, non-authoritative solution - driver awareness.
Traffic Monitor Speed Awareness Display
The Traffic Monitor Speed Awareness Display, has been designed to assist communities in promoting speed limit compliance and traffic safety. The Traffic Monitor integrates a clear L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diode) lamp matrix display with a radar head in a compact package ideal for permanent or temporary applications.
Approaching motorists see their speed displayed on large 20" characters, making them aware their speed is being monitored.
This results in lower average speeds and a safer traffic environment. The system is powered by standard 110 V AC grid power. A 12 V DC power source option allows for integration into a battery and/or solar recharged system. Proven components work in unison to provide years of reliable service.
The Compact, self contained unit comes with solid structural steel mounting angles for immediate installation on standard traffic poles. Alternative mounting options are available.

Display Cabinet
The entire system was developed for minimal maintenance and easy service. Modules are easily replaced, dramatically reducing downtime and maintenance. The traffic monitor is enclosed in a rugged 34" X 34" X 11" cabinet formed from 1/8" thick aluminum. The display and radar head are mounted behind a UV resistant polycarbonate window, providing the best combination of visibility and protection from the elements.
Character Board
L.E.D. lamp matrix design provides increased legibility and message definition for safer traffic conditions. The message display incorporates patented optics in front of solid state LED's to form clearly defined 2" pixels. The resulting 20" tall characters are visible at distances of over 1000 ft. The long lasting, energy efficient LED display contains no moving parts and requires no maintenance. LED intensity remains constant regardless of voltage fluctuation to assure legibility at all times..
